ENGLIT 0637 - HORROR LITERATURE Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Horror Literature examines the history, social functions, and goals of horror as a literary genre. We will consider developments and changes in the genre from its Gothic origins in the 19th century up to the present. We will read a range of authors using literary forms including novels, short stories, and digital media. We will consider these works in terms of historical and cultural contexts, aesthetic and stylistic concerns, pleasures and anxieties, and form and medium. We will study various approaches to horror literature, developing and applying a critical vocabulary and tools for the analysis of the genre.
