HUMAN 0346 - BARCELONA IN MODERN CATALAN LITERATURE Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 In this course, students will learn about the representation of Barcelona in modern Catalan literature. They will read several novels by famous Catalan writers such as Ildefonso Falcones, Eduardo Mendoza, Merce Rodoreda, Montserrat Roig, and Carmen Laforet. These novels depict Barcelona in the Middle Ages, at the time of the Industrial Revolution, and during the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War. Students will be specifically introduced to Barcelona’s history and art history, as the instructor will lead them through the streets of Barcelona and its famous museums. These excursions will allow students to have a better understanding of the relationship between literature and visual art in Barcelona from the Middle Ages to the present.
