ENGLIT 0621 - AFRICAN-AMERICAN LITERATURE Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course introduces students to key literary texts and critical debates crucial to African American Literary Studies. By reading novels, short stories, and essays, we will work towards an understanding of key themes, conceptual frameworks, and critical terms and who they have developed in relationship to historical and cultural transformations. Beginning with works from the 19th century, charting changes in the topics and issues resulting from major historical events and movements (including civil rights movements and social revolutions), and moving towards more recent texts and conversations, students will develop foundational knowledge concerning the study of African American Literature.
