SOC 0265 - INEQUALITY, CRIME, & JUSTICEMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Issues of crime and justice with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, and class will be examined from the perspectives of law enforcement, corrections, the legal process, and different socio-demographic groups in society. This course will explore the challenges of addressing crime in a society stratified by race, ethnicity, gender, and class, specifically looking at the experiences of socially disadvantaged groups (as both victims and perpetrators), the applicability of criminological theories to minority criminality, and the impact of inequality on the law-making process, the content of the law, the administration and enforcement of the law, and the quality of justice afforded socially disadvantaged groups.
